Unity College Holds Environmental Career Fair Submitted: 02/10/2010
Unity - Environmental career employers from across the United States connected with job seekers at Unity College Wednesday.

We take you inside Maine's largest environmental career fair.

Hauns Bassett is a 1997 graduate of Unity College. If you run into him, he'll tell you how much of a soft spot he has for the school, after all, it's where he was prepped for his job search.

"We had the Career Resource Center, and I spent a lot of time in the Career Resource Center. They helped us learn how to write a resume, they helped us learn how to write a cover letter," said Bassett.

Unity still has a thriving Career Center, but now, in addition, alumni like Bassett come back, and take part in the Environmental Career Fair. The company Bassett works for, Jobs for Maine Graduates, loves the relationship.

"The Unity College classroom just lines up really well with what we do in classrooms around the state of Maine," said Bassett.

More than 80 organizations were represented at Wednesday's event and students from three other colleges attended.

University of New England sophomores, Brittany Prior and Megan Wood, took the trip to Unity to look into summer internships.

"I'm a marine biology major, so I'm kind of looking for something more towards the aquarium and research in that kind of a field or conservation there," said Megan Wood.

Her friend, Brittany, agrees.

"Anything that I can get into for next year, just so that I can find something that will look good on my resume," said Brittany Prior.

Bassett says students had lots of questions Wednesday, and his knowledge of the college helped them feel connected with him.

"It's pretty fun because as an alumni I get to say, I had this class when I was a student and it's really helped me in my career," said Bassett with a smile.

Unity College will hold the event again next year.
