Bangor - Traffic was backed up on State Street in Bangor Thursday, and hundreds were standing in the cold for hours...all because of a sandwich.
After almost 80 years in business, Skip Rist served his final Coffee Pot sandwiches Thursday afternoon.
The Coffee Pot opened in 1930 by Rist's father. Wednesday, news spread quickly that the sandwich shop would be closing for good on Thursday.
Hundreds of people lines the streets, hours before the store opened at 10a.m., and those lucky enough to get a sandwich, weren't buying just one.
"I have 16 here. There's a couple for my mother and my sister, and my husband said he'd eat a couple. This is all I am eating for the rest of today," said Yvonne Gray of Orrington .
"It's been a family favorite, and I know my aunt and cousins in Maryland are going to be really jealous of this. I'm not sending them one, I'm keeping them all for myself. But, I had to get a last Coffee Pot, that's why I'm here," said Matt Donahue, a Bangor resident.
Unfortunately, not everyone in line got to get a sandwich Thursday. Just after 1 o'clock, Skip ran out of rolls, and the same as every day, that means the Coffee Pot was closed.
Some people were selling the sandwiches to others in the line, we're told one customer even spent $80 for two of the sandwiches.
