Medway - A fire that destroyed two abandoned houses in Medway over the weekend has now been ruled arson.

Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office spent Monday at the scene on Medway Road where fire crews from Medway, East Millinocket, and Mattawamkeag battled the blaze Sunday night.

The flames started in one structure and soon spread to the next, destroying both buildings.

Though still under investigation, officials say the fact that both houses were abandoned, with all utilities disconnected, caused them to be suspicious and led them to believe the fire was intentionally set.
