Students Honor Veterans Through Essay Submitted: 11/11/2009
Bangor - The Cole Land Transportation Museum was packed with people from all generations Wednesday as part of the museum's Veteran's Day observance.

The institution held it's annual student-veteran essay contest award ceremony Wednesday afternoon.

Each year, the museum allows students the opportunity to interview a veteran and write about the experience.

Wednesday, the top three middle and high school essays were read by the students to the veterans.

"I never really thought about what freedom really meant, but now I feel really good about it because I've talked to veterans and I really k now what it means now, and what it means to them. How they defended freedom, and what I need to do to honor them," said Nathaniel Lombardi, a 2nd place essay winner.

The students each received a savings bond and picture with the veteran so they can always remember Wednesday's event.

They all encourage students to participate in the contest next year.
