Bucksport - In Bucksport, the second phase of a special memorial was unveiled Wednesday afternoon.
Town officials, veterans and residents gathered at the Bucksport Area Veterans Memorial to display the newest additions to the sculpture, six stones representing the five branches of the Armed Forces and the Merchant Marines.
The memorial is inscribed with the words, "To Honor All Those Who Served To Protect Our Freedom, May They Never Be Forgotten."
" Now with this standing here, that everyone can admire forever, they can see that the town does support them, that they believe in the veterans and they understand what they went through," said Richard Bowden, the Chairman of the Memorial Committee.
Organizers say they still need more than $30,000 to finish the final phase of the memorial, which consists of installing black granite pavers, with veterans' names on them, creating a Field of Honor.
The hope to have the memorial finished by Memorial Day 2010.
