Okie in Court Submitted: 11/09/2009
A convicted killer made his appeal to the Maine Supreme Judicial Court Monday.

Last year, John Okie, 23, was found guilty of killing his ex-girlfriend, Aleigh Mills and his father, John S. Okie in 2007.

He was ordered to serve 2 consecutive 30 year sentences in the Maine State Prison.

In Monday's appeal, Okie's lawyers claim the young man's mental state did not play enough of a part in the judge's sentencing and that the judge made an error in his instruction to the jury regarding the consequences of the sentence.

The Supreme Court took the case under advisement Monday.

If the conviction is overturned, Okie would get a new trial.
