Bangor - While a jury cleared a man from Eddington of trying to kill his estranged wife and her boyfriend, he was still found guilty late Monday afternoon of simple assault and violation of a protection order. The jury found 33-year-old Ryan Witmer not guilty of aggravated attempted murder, and elevated aggravated assault, along with other felonies.
Whitmer has been in jail, held without bail, ever since his arrest more than year ago in June 2008. On Monday, he was released on 20-thousand dollars surety bail. He's also been ordered not to have any contact with his ex-wife or her boyfriend, as well as no use of alcohol or drugs, with random testing for their use. A sentencing date will be set later this month
