Papermakers Urge Snowe and Collins to Pass Clean Energy Legislation Submitted: 10/21/2009
Bangor - Maine papermakers urged Senators Susan Collins and Olympis Snowe, Wednesday, to pass strong clean energy jobs legislation.

In a press conference in Bangor, United Steelworkers of Maine, representing 2,500 of the state's papermakers said comprehensive clean energy and climate change legislation will create thousands of new union jobs for workers and improve the states economy.

"We have several machines down right now, some are for good, they're not going to come back. Some of them depend on the economy, and part of that economy is the cost of energy. If we can help do something to keep the cost of energy down, we could start up some of those machines," said Ron Hemingway, United Steelworkers Local 900.
