Three Car Accident in Carmel Submitted: 10/16/2009
Carmel - Traffic was backed up on I-95 South late Friday morning due to a three car accidnet.

Just after 11 o'clock Friday morning, State Police as well as Carmel Fire and Hermon Ambulance responded to a chain reaction accident near exit 170 in Carmel.

"The driver of the first vehicle decided at the last minute that she wanted to take the cross over and when she slammed on her brakes the other vehicles couldn't stop behind her," said Trooper Chris Hashey of the Maine State Police.

Two vehicles ended up in a ditch on the left hand side of the Interstate, while a pick-up truck was able to come to a stop in the break down lane.

Six people were involved, and only a few minor injuries were reported.

The driver of the first vehicle will be cited for trying to use a cross-over. Another driver involved will be charged with operating with a suspended license.
