Train Cars Derail Carrying Sulfuric Acid Submitted: 05/20/2009
Hermon - De-railed train cars carrying Sulfuric Acid and Ethanol kept work crews busy in Hermon Tuesday.

A Maine, Montreal, and Atlantic Railways train coming from Brownville Junction derailed behind LSM Transportation on the Coldbrook Road around 8:30 Monday morning.

The rear wheels of the train went off the tracks, but all of the cars remained up-right.
Haz-Mat crews drained the Sulfuric Acid from the cars as a precaution. No materials leaked, and there was no danger to citizens.

Work and mechanical crews, as well as a special team from Pittsburgh, worked to drain and repair the cars, officials say the incident should not slow down any other business.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
