Accused Drive-By Shooters Appear in Court

MACHIAS - The two men accused of a drive-by shooting in Milbridge last week appeared in court today.
Sherman Merchant, 25, and Benjamin Ray, 28, have been charged with Criminal Mischief with a Firearm, and Reckless Conduct with a Firearm; and Merchant was also charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, and Violation of Bail Conditions. The two are accused of shooting more than one round into the home of Oscar Cruiz in the early morning of December 17th. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department has found the 22-caliber Colt handgun used in the shooting. The judge set bail at $10,000 cash for Ray and $25,000 cash for Merchant.
