BANGOR - A Passadumkeag man is awaiting sentencing after pleading no contest to charges of Gross Sexual Assault and Burglary in a year old case.
Derwin Springer Jr., 39, was accused of breaking into a neighbor’s home and raping the woman who lived there last October 29th. Springer pleaded no contest in Penobscot County Superior Court. In accepting Springer’s pleas, Justice John Nivison said a no contest plea results in a conviction just as a guilty plea would. Defense Attorney Jeffrey Silverstein says Springer entered the no contest pleas because he had no recollection of the events when the crimes took place. Springer is expected to be sentenced later this month, or in early November.
