Jim Kosek
Weather

Jim was born in Pittston, Pennsylvania, on October 23, 1964. He moved with his family, which includes two older brothers and his twin sister, to Wyoming Valley, Pennsylvania, where he grew up and graduated with honors from Wyoming Valley Area High School in 1982. Jim enrolled at the Pennsylvania State University and graduated in 1986 with a B.S. in meteorology. While in college, Jim spent five semesters with the Penn State Campus Weather Service and won a Meteorology 411 forecasting contest. He is currently a member of the American Meteorological Society and the Association of American Weather Observers. Jim became captivated by the weather after watching TV weathermen as a child and still enjoys forecasting snowstorms more than anything else. He fulfilled a childhood dream in 1987 when he began working at AccuWeather, the world's leading commercial weather company. Since he began his employment, Jim has garnered many awards: the 1991 Annual Outstanding Progress in Forecasting Award, the 1993 Annual Outstanding Progress in Broadcasting Award and several Forecaster of the Month awards. He was promoted to Senior Forecaster in 1994. Jim has become a familiar face to cable viewers with appearances on CNBC, MSNBC and his regular Friday appearance on ESPN2's morning program Cold Pizza.
An avid sports fan, Jim follows the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs religiously. He enjoys playing softball and racquetball, and his golf game is reportedly improving every day. Jim's competitive spirit was quite evident at one of the 1994 AccuWeather parties when he out-hustled his co-workers to win the Annual AccuWeather Pool Tournament, a legendary tale still told around the office. Jim also appreciates film and music with his tastes leaning towards classic rock and heavy metal music. Caddyshack and Monty Python's Holy Grail rank among his personal movie favorites.

Bernie Rayno
Weather

Bernie Rayno is an Expert Senior Meteorologist and Afternoon Forecast Manager for AccuWeather, Inc.
Bernie was born in Beaver Meadows, PA, a town 45 minutes south-southwest of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. His interest in meteorology was sparked early--he was bitten by the weather bug in Kindergarten and soon developed an interest in snowstorms. While growing up, Bernie kept a log of current weather maps that he copied from A.M. Weather, a PBS show he watched religiously. His devotion to the weather soon gave him the reputation among friends and family as someone to turn to for the latest weather forecasts. Bernie graduated from Hazleton Senior High School in 1985, and graduated from Penn State University in 1990 with a B.S. in Meteorology in 1990. While at Penn State, he achieved first place in the junior forecasting contest, first place in the senior forecasting and finished in the top ten percent of the 1989-1990 National Collegiate Forecasting Contest. Later in 1990, Bernie began his career at AccuWeather as a severe weather monitor. He was promoted to morning lead weather forecaster in December 1991, then was transferred to AccuWeatherâ„¢'s International Department in September 1994. Bernie's role in AccuWeatherâ„¢'s radio and television broadcasts steadily increased through the 1990s. Based on his skills and experience, he was promoted to Afternoon Manager of Forecasting Operations in January 2000. He then took over responsibility of video broadcasting a few months later, performing a variety of broadcast duties ranging from appearing on national networks such as NBC, CBS and MSNBC to performing radio interviews to appearing on streaming video on breaking weather at AccuWeather.com.
Throughout his AccuWeather career, Bernie has established himself as an integral part of the company. He has received five AccuWeather yearly awards, been named forecaster of the month five times, and was recently promoted to the title of Expert Senior Meteorologist. When away from AccuWeather, Bernie relaxes by participating and watching sports. He is especially a fan of football and tennis. He follows the Wisconsin Badgers and the Green Bay Packers (he named his golden retriever Packer), and is a big fan of Andre Agassi, although he is beginning to warm up to Andy Roddick.

  Assignment Editor

Amy Belanger
Assignment Editor
tv7news@wvii.com

Amy has been happily employed at WVII for 5 years after “falling into” the position of Assignment Editor. Amy is a life-long Mainer, born and raised in Caribou, moving to Kenduskeag in 1995 with her parents. She graduated from Central High School and returned to the County to attend Northern Maine Technical College (now Northern Maine Community College) to receive her Associate’s in Information Technology (even though she doesn’t really get along with computers).

After working in the Bangor-area, Amy was recruited by Jan Smith (former News Director) to be the Assignment Editor in the fall of 2002. Amy hit the ground running, and, with a lot of “on the job training” and County work ethic, grew to love her job! She stepped out of the AE position for three years to work in the Business/Sales side of WVII/WFVX, but missed the hustle and bustle of the newsroom. Now back on the AE desk, Amy spends her days finding news, setting up interviews and keeping peace in the family of “Your Bangor News.” Amy now resides in Bangor with her two roommates and a spoiled cat.
