Bangor - United States transportation officials will visit Maine to discuss the Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway.
Senator Susan Collins invited the officials to travel to Maine for meetings with local and state officials and stakeholders.
The current owner of MMA has filed a notice of intent to abandon 233 miles of its track in Aroostook and Northern Penobscot Counties, citing high operation costs and low shipping volume as the reason.
Senator Collins has serious concerns about the change, which she says would have a devastating impact on the economy of Aroostook County and Northern Maine.
More than 20 businesses employing thousands of workers rely on the railroad.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 8th, in Bangor.
