MACHIAS - An Island Falls log truck driver will be going to prison for three months after pleading guilty to a manslaughter charge for crashing into a state vehicle and killing the driver.
On September 24, 2007, 58-year-old Kenneth Slauenwhite was driving on Route 6 in Kossuth Township when he crossed the centerline and hit a dump truck, killing Maine Department of Transportation employee Jarrod Damon, 35, of Grand Lakes Stream as well as injuring another state employee. Slauenwhite had been speeding but prosecutors are not alleging intentional conduct. He will begin serving his 3-month sentence in January.
