Module Project Contract Bringing 100 Jobs Submitted: 09/09/2010
BREWER - “Couldn’t be happier!” That’s how the heads of Eastern Manufacturing in Brewer described the newest project deal for the facility.

Cianbro Corporation President and CEO Peter Vigue and Vice President and General Manage Joe Cote said area residents will start seeing “big red boxes” (pontoons shipped in for the project) outside the South Main Street facility, as they get ready to design and manufacture electrical room modules for a nickel processing plant in Labrador. The plant, owned by Brazilian-based company, Vale, is located in the remote area of Voisey’s Bay in the Canadian Province.
Cianbro will construct 22 modules ranging from one to three stories high and weighing approximately 600 tons…comparable to the largest modules manufactured for the recent Motiva project.
Cote and Vigue say they started bringing in workers to ready themselves for this project back in July and plan to bring in more workers this fall when they start the actual manufacturing process in Brewer. This project differs from the Motiva project in that Cianbro will also be involved in the design of these electrical rooms, which will hold transformers, switchers, etc. Cianbro’s fabrication facility in Pittsfield will even make the steel for the modules before the construction begins in Brewer in late 2010. Though they say a schedule is still being ironed out with Vale, they foresee this project lasting through the first quarter of 2012.
